Pithos is a classic Cretan design similar to the Pithari, but with a narrower neck. It has small handles near the neck. This design has been made since at least Minoan times. It's traditional function was the storage of oil, wine and grain. Today they are still used for storage but also as indoor or outdoor plantars, and as indoor natural air conditioners, humidifiers or room coolers: when filled with water, the evaporation cools the air.
The large pots make spectacular architectural features and the smaller ones can be used as vases, umbrella stands or very beautiful waste paper bins!
