Kalamata olives are possibly the most famous olives in the world. Kalamata olives are a delicious, incredibly healthy snack. They are great as a snack, appetiser, meze, or added to salads. Olives can also be added to stews and other dishes (such as pizza and pasta) but best to use the pitted ones for this.
Our olives are hand-picked in the private groves of Monemvasia and Sparta.
The olives are then 'de-bittered' for 7 months in sea-salt brine, without prior slitting as this preserves the flavour. But it means the process takes longer! We have two sizes - Jumbo (181-200) and Large (231-260). The large tend to be more salty.
Our whole kalamata olives are presented in a sea salt brine of two different strengths - the more salty variety for the Large olives (preserves the olives for longer) and the standard salty for the Jumbo. The saltiness can be reduced by decanting the olives and placing them in cooled previously boiled water for an hour prior to eating.
