Kalamata olives are rightly the most famous table olive in the world, and ours have won a prestigious Great Taste Award. Coming direct to us from Sparta, these pitted kalamata olives are presented in a luxurious dressing of Greek organic extra virgin olive oil with wild oregano, rosemary and a touch of red wine vinegar. The olives are hand-picked in the groves around Sparta, the region famous for its Kalamata PDO olives. The olives are then 'de-bittered' for 5 months in sea-salt brine, without prior slitting (unlike some olives which are slit to speed up the process!). This means the flavour is completely preserved within the olive. The olives are then pitted (de-stoned) only at the very end of curing, to preserve the flavour. They are then transferred to the extra virgin olive oil dressing and can be kept for months prior to opening.
Kalamata olives are a delicious, incredibly healthy snack. They are packed with antioxidants and are great as an appetiser, meze, or added to salads. Olives can also be added to stews and other dishes (such as pizza and pasta) - best to use the pitted ones for this.
