We are delighted to introduce these incredibly delicious walnuts, grown on a farm in Evia by a husband and wife. The couple started the farm 20 years ago from one of the best variety of walnuts obtained from a grower in France, and started the farm from tiny seedlings.
One of the characteristics of good walnuts - apart from the taste - is the texture, which is crunchy, ad the colour, which should be uniform without any 'bleaching' of the edges; unfortunately many of the walnuts which are available in Europe are sourced from a variety of places, and the provenance and quality is unclear.
Stavia went to great lengths to find this incredible farm, and we hope to be able to promote their amazing walnuts and support their great work.
About the production:
The walnut farm is located on the Artemision plain of Northern Evia facing the island of Skiathos and the wind-swept Mount Olympus to the NE. There are 1,150 organic walnut trees as well as a good number of Black Walnuts grown for their valuable timber. Its northern border defined by the Xirias river, a sanctuary for wildlife. The walnut farm was created 15 years ago with the expert advice of experienced French cultivators and planted with the most productive walnut varieties imported from the Perigord. All the walnuts are harvested, crushed packaged and exported straight from the farm to us.
