This is an organic wine, made of grapes grown in the family owned vineyards. The Moraitis winery is a 4th generation affair hat has been in existence for just over 100 years. The winery is situated on the picturesque island of Paros in the Cycladic islands. The vines are not irrigated and are un-grafted. They are grown in the traditional fashion, where the vines crawl across the ground, which protects them from the summer winds (known as the Meltemi). This wine is a blend of the indigenous grape varieties of Assyrtiko and Malagouzia; Assyrtiko with its amazing minerality and natural acidity is softened by the soft stone-fruit characteristics of Malagouzia. The latter grape was re-discovered about 20 years ago and is now very popular in Greece. Light straw in colour, salty and fresh, lemon and lime with clean cut apple freshness. In terms of food matches, the 50% Assyrtiko makes this a versatile food match wine. It goes well with salads, fish and shellfish dishes. It is also good with chicken, especially the English classic Coronation chicken, as the stone fruit character of Malagouzia can hold its own with a little sweetness. Also great with Thai food!
